Happy Bastile Day!
This was our final breakfast at Le Mas Perreal, after which we were heading to the Pyrenees, the Carloughs were heading to Aix-en-Provence, and the Garès were heading to Lyon. I'm sure all would agree it was a wonderful week for us in the Luberon; fabulous food, beautiful scenery, and lots of reminiscing since Paul, Pam, Bill, Joni, and I have known each other since our days in college. Rosemary joined us just a few years after graduation.
After breakfast we said our goodbyes, and we were in our Renault Symbioz by 10:30. Our destination was the Hôtel d'Angleterre, in Arreau, a charming village in the Pyrenees, 468 km southwest of Saint Saturnin. Although the drive was long, it was almost all highway, and I think because it was Bastile Day there were very few trucks on the road which made it much more relaxing.
After three stops to answer calls of nature, we arrived in Arreau around 5:30 PM where we were warmly greeted by Bruno who clearly remembered us which was surprising since we had not seen him since 2022.
This is our tenth visit to the Hôtel d'Angleterre, so it feels like home, and owner, Marie-Hélēene Aubiban has become a good friend over the years.
After unpacking we made our way down to the bar, and had a nice chat with Marie-Helene before going to dinner around 8 pm. Having a dining room in the hotel is a real treat. We don't have to decide where and when to eat, we don't have to drive anywhere after dinner, and we don't have to pay for our meals until we check out of the hotel. It is very relaxing.
